Hydromulching Queensland

Hydromulching is a process of spraying a slurry of water, organic mulch, seed, fertilizer, soil conditioners and binder on to a site from a truck tank via directional gun. It protects a soil surface from erosion and increases infiltiration of a rainfall into the soil. Hydromulching also reduces the drying rate of a soil surface after rain, which improves germination of seeds and establishment of plants.

We do hydromulching in South-East Queensland and have completed a range of hydromulching projects over the years. View our recent projects here. We are using the following products for hydromulching and erosion control.

RT5 Superskin
Total Ground Control
Flexterra® HP-FGM™
ProGanics™ Biotic Soil Media™

RT5 Superskin
Stockpile & Exposed Ground Crusting Agent for Elimination of Dust Lift-Off

RT5 Superskin is a unique emulsion of cross linked microscoptic superabsorbent polymers for ‘non-trafficked’ areas to bind fine dust particles. It is diluted at ‘ultra low concentration’ in water and can be sprayed onto all forms of exposed stockpiles, ground, sand, minerals and tailings to create a strong, durable yet flexible veneer (skin/crust). One single application completely binds up all fines to eliminate dust lift-off.

RT5 Superskin is 100% environmentally safe, which makes it suitable for environmentally sensitive applications. It can also be applied in conjunction with seeding and with suitable marking dye for area identification. RT5 Superskin is extremely cost/effective.

Application

Subject to site conditions, RT5 Superskin is applied at 2-8 mls of concentrate per m2 of material. It is diluted in water and applied at a rate of 1-2 litres of solution per m2 of exposed material using any conventional water spraying equipment.

When used with a marking dye, should the dye fade, it is no reflection on the performance of the veneer.

Total Ground Control (TGC)
Dust Suppressant, Erosion Control and Long-Term Crusting Agent

Total Ground Control (TGC) is a specialty product developed as a long/term crusting agent and veneer coat for all non-trafficked applications. TGC is diluted in water and sprayed directly onto open ground material for long/term results. It can last up to 18 months. TGC can also be applied with seed and planting programs. Main areas of application include stockpiles, tailing dams, broad acre areas, rail cars and truck loads, all exposed materials and embankments.

Once applied TGC locks down all material to protect against wind and water erosion. TGC is also UV tolerant. Tests at the Newcastle University have proven the effectiveness of TGC in withstanding winds over 100km strong.

Application

TGC is diluted in water at a rate of between 2%-6%. This solution is prayed onto the treatment zone at a rate of 1-2 litres per m2. In addition, TGC has numerous applications in the agricultural industry and can be sprayed directly over seeds, plants and trees.

Flexterra® HP-FGM
High Performance Erosion Control

Patented Flexterra® High Performance-Flexible Growth MediumTM (HP-FGMTM) is proven to surpass all hydraulically applied mulch products and rolled erosion control blankets. It delivers a nearly perfect balance between three fundamental pillars of performance—erosion control effectiveness, growth establishment and functional longevity—to create the highest performing hydraulically applied medium on the market today.

Flexterra minimizes soil loss and turbidity of effluent runoff and is immediately effective upon application as it bonds directly to soil surface. It has superior erosion control quality and required less soil preparation, less time for lay down and lower installed cost than rolled blankets. Flexterra also has faster vegetative establishment and greater biomass production than any rolled blanket or hydraulically applied mulch available.

Flexterra HP-FGM has also proven to be more environmentally friendly. It includes of 100% recycled wood fibers, 100% biodegradable man-made fibers, naturally derived biopolymers and non-toxic components. It’s phyto-sanitized wood fibers eliminate weed seeds and pathogens and no nettings, threads or staples to endanger wildlife are required.
Flexterra is suitable in particular for highway projects, golf course construction, commercial and residential development, oil and grass restoration, mine and fire reclamation and waterways.

ProGanics Biotic Soil Media™
The most advanced engineered soil media

ProGanics™ Biotic Soil Media™ is designed as a topsoil alternative that brings depleted soils back to life. It is extremely suitable for challenging and difficult-to-access sites. ProGanics will accelerate development of depleted soils/substrates with low organic matter, low nutrient levels and limited biological activity. This Engineered Soil Media helps build soils to their fullest potential for vegetative establishment and more effective erosion control.

The ProGanics patent-pending, non-toxic formulation has been innovated using time-proven components from the horticultural and erosion control industries.
ProGanics Biotic Soil Media is a combination of recycled Thermally Refined bark and wood fibers with a proprietary blend of biopolymers, biochar, seaweed extract, humid acid, endomycorrhizae and other beneficial constituents. These components work synergistically to create a holistic solution to improve the agronomic potential in the rhizosphere. Unlike peat harvested from fragile wetlands, all components of the ProGanics Biotic Soil Media blend are naturally derived and renewable, and engineered to optimize moisture retention, growth and establishment of vegetation.

Proganics outperformed leading Biotic Soil Amendment products in replicated random block design greenhouse trials for Total Percent Cover and Total Biomass. No BSA performs like ProGanics BSM when it comes to establishing sustainable vegetation.

Recommended applications

  • Replacement of costly of difficult to obtain soil
  • Replacement of Compost, peat, manure and other sources of organic material
  • Development of soils with low organic matter (< 3%)
  • Rapid establishment and sustained growth of vegetation
